Starlink Ready For India, Will Help In Rural Connectivity: Elon Musk

SpaceX chief Elon Musk said he is eager to launch the company's low cost, reliable internet Starlink in India, which already operates in 150 countries.

Speaking to investor and entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath in the People of WTF podcast, Musk said Starlink's strength lies in the thousands of low-Earth-orbit satellites that deliver high-speed, low-latency connectivity worldwide. "There are laser links between the satellites, so it forms sort of a laser mesh. Let's say if cables are damaged or cut, like fiber cables, the satellites can communicate between each other and provide connectivity," he said.

Starlink satellites orbit at about 550 kilometres, far lower than traditional geostationary satellites at 36,000 kilometres, allowing faster response times, Musk added. This makes them particularly helpful for disaster areas. "If an area has been hit with some kind of natural disaster, floods or fires or earthquakes, that tends to damage the ground infrastructure. But the Starlink satellites still work," he said. The tech and space billionaire further said that in disaster situations, Starlink provides free internet.

He gave the example of the recent Red Sea cable cuts, which impacted connectivity, even as Starlink continued to operate without disruption.

Musk also explained the advantage of Starlink networks in rural areas. "In cities, you've got these cell towers that are only a kilometer apart. But cell towers tend to be inefficient in the countryside. So, in rural rural areas is where you tend to have the worst internet because it's very expensive and difficult to lay all the fiber optic cables or to have high bandwidth cellular towers. So, Starlink is very complementary to the existing telecom companies. It tends to serve the least served," he said.

The Tesla chief also warned that physics don't allow Starlink to become efficient in densely populated areas with competitive local network providers. He said it is complementary to cellular networks, not a competitor. "Physics doesn't allow us to beat something that's one kilometre away," he explained, adding that Starlink could still serve 1-2 per cent of users in urban pockets lacking fiber.

"Working Will Be Optional In Next 20 Years": Elon Musk's Big Prediction

Elon Musk has predicted that people "won't have to work at all" in the future. And, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics would bring about that change, said the tech billionaire, who has often spoken about his extreme seven-day 'sleep-wake-up-work-repeat' schedule.

"It may not be that far in the future. Maybe... I say in less than 20 years, working will be optional. Working at all will be optional. (It will be) Like a hobby, pretty much," Musk said on Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath's "People by WTF" podcast.

"Obviously, people can play this back in 20 years and say, 'Look, Elon made this ridiculous prediction, and it's not true, but I think it will turn out to be true that in less than 20 years, maybe. Even as little as... 10 or 15 years. The advancements in AI and robotics will bring us to the point where working is optional in the same way that you can grow your own vegetables in your garden, or you could go to the store and buy vegetables," the 54-year-old said.

Musk -- whose xAI company has a chatbot called Grok -- is confident that "if AI and robotics continue to advance, working will be optional and people will have any goods and services that they want".

"It will be if you can think of it, you can have it type of thing," he said.

The head of Tesla and SpaceX said that in future, there will also come a point when AI and robotics will "run out of things to do to make humans happy".

"At a certain point, AI will actually saturate on anything humans can think of and then at that point, it becomes a situation where AI is doing things for AI and robotics because they have run out of things to do to make the humans happy, because there's a limit."

This is not the first time Musk has made such a prediction. At the US-Saudi Investment Forum on November 19, Musk said that AI and robots would eventually allow work to become optional for human beings, that money would become "irrelevant" and poverty would cease to exist.

"AI and humanoid robots will actually eliminate poverty," said Musk, adding that robots would "make everyone wealthy."

In his conversation with Kamath, he said that in the long term, money will disappear as a concept.

"Honestly, it's kind of strange, but in a future where anyone can have anything, I think you no longer need money as a database for labour allocation. If AI and robotics are big enough to satisfy all human needs, then the relevance of money declines dramatically.

He also said that in the future, humans will have "power generation as the de facto currency".

Abhishek Bajaj Reunites With Ashnoor Kaur After Bigg Boss 19 Eviction

Ashnoor Kaur's eviction from Bigg Boss 19 just days before the grand finale left fans stunned, especially as the decision stemmed not from low votes but from a violation of house rules.

Now, following her sudden exit, fellow contestant and close friend Abhishek Bajaj has reunited with her.

A Heartfelt Reunion After A Controversial Exit

Abhishek met Ashnoor soon after she stepped out of the Bigg Boss house. He later shared glimpses of their meeting on Instagram, including photos of the duo smiling together on her balcony and a sweet clip where he warmly says, "Welcome back!" Ashnoor is seen expressing that she wished she could have stayed "a week longer" until the finale. Abhishek responds with reassurance, telling her, "Koi baat nahi. Badhiya bande hood pe, baaki sab thud pe."

Alongside the visuals, he penned an emotional note praising her strength and composure during her time on the show. "In a house full of chaos, you became my calm. In a room full of energy vampires, you became my energy charger. You were my sukoon. You came with courage, played with dignity, and left with love. Grateful for every moment we stood together, Ashnoor... and today your exit felt personal! Ps - Jab jab Chand Taaro ka Zikra hoga Humara bhi Zikra hoga #RabbRakha #PiddiandGoku #Abhinoor," he wrote.

The Incident That Led To Ashnoor's Eviction

Ashnoor's eviction was announced during the Weekend Ka Vaar episode after she hit contestant Tanya Mittal with a wooden plank during the ticket-to-finale task. Although she argued that she did not intend to hurt Tanya, host Salman Khan confronted her with footage that suggested the move was fuelled by anger rather than an accident.

Salman condemned the act, emphasising the show's strict no-violence policy, and noted that Ashnoor showed little remorse at the time. The makers subsequently confirmed her eviction on grounds of physical aggression. The announcement left Ashnoor in tears, insisting she never believed Tanya was hurt and had not wanted to leave the show.

"Arvind Kejriwal Betrayed Everyone": 2-Time AAP MLA Joins BJP In Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and two-time MLA Rajesh Gupta joined the BJP on Saturday ahead of the civic polls. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva welcomed him into the party.

Gupta criticised AAP national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who he alleged considered party workers as "use and throw" objects. It is the biggest reason behind the party's downfall, he added.

Gupta even became emotional as he recalled his contributions to the AAP and the ill-treatment that he got from Kejriwal in return.

He said when the AAP was founded, many prominent individuals enthusiastically joined Kejriwal, but he betrayed everyone. "One by one, they all chose to leave him. Today, unfortunately, I have also joined that list," Gupta said.

He got upset after a municipal election ticket was given to a person to whom the AAP had itself issued notice earlier.

Sachdeva welcomed Gupta into the party by offering the traditional party stole in the presence of MLA Rajkumar Bhatia and media head Praveen Shankar Kapoor. The Delhi BJP chief said Gupta created a distinct identity for himself as a responsible MLA, but Kejriwal failed to value his contribution.

He said the way Kejriwal is missing from Delhi and the circumstances under which he left demand close examination.

Sachdeva said the AAP has pushed Delhi into such a poor situation over the last 12 years that its burden has now fallen upon the new government.

The BJP government is making efforts to gradually reduce this burden, he added, but Kejriwal, who calls himself Delhi's son, has completely disappeared because he knows Delhi has now seen his true face.

"Just as Aurangzeb plundered Delhi, Kejriwal, Sisodia and other senior AAP leaders have also harmed the city. After looting and indulging in corruption, AAP leaders are now comfortably settled in Punjab," Sachdeva added.

The AAP leader's induction into the BJP comes just a day before the civic by-elections.

As many as 53 candidates are in the fray for the 12 seats for which the Municipal Corporation of Delhi by-elections will be held. The BJP held nine out of the 12 vacant wards where the by-election is scheduled.

The by-elections have assumed significance for the BJP as these are the first political contest in the city since the party returned to power after 27 years in the assembly elections in February.

Some experts are calling the by-elections a virtual referendum on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta government's nine-month performance.

Karnataka's Familiar Tug-Of-War: Siddaramaiah vs DKS And A 2007 Shadow

Karnataka is again living through a crisis that feels eerily familiar. Over the last week senior Congress leaders, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar, moved from open rivalry to a breakfast featuring upma, idli, and sambar. The current contest evokes strong parallels to a previous chapter in Karnataka's political history which offers a cautionary tale.

In 2006-07 an ostensibly stable pact between the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a rotational power-sharing arrangement collapsed into political acrimony, resignations and a period of President's Rule. The episode involved a familiar cast of JD(S) chief HD. Kumaraswamy and BJP stalwart BS Yediyurappa.

What Happened In 2006-07

In the aftermath of the 2004 Assembly elections, no party secured a majority resulting in a three-way split between the Congress, JD(S), and BJP. The JD(S)-Congress alliance first formed the government, but by 2006, JD(S), under Kumaraswamy, had switched allegiances to the BJP.

The bargain was a 20-month rotational chief-ministership with Kumaraswamy going first.

The arrangement was supposed to provide a stable alternative to Congress rule. But soon, cracks appeared. Corruption allegations and clashes over prominent infrastructure projects marred the relationship between the JD(S) and the BJP.

As the 20-month mark approached in late 2007, the JD(S) led by the father-son duo of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy balked at handing over power. The BJP felt betrayed and the coalition imploded.

Kumaraswamy resigned in October 2007, the Governor recommended dissolution, President's Rule was imposed, and in the chaos that followed Yediyurappa's first chief-ministerial stint in November 2007 lasted only days. Kumaraswamy accused central BJP leaders of conspiring while BJP accused JD(S) of reneging.

In May 2008, fresh elections were called and the BJP emerged victorious, winning 110 seats

Parallels With Today

In both cases two very senior leaders appear to be at the centre of a power tussle. In 2007 commentators argued that delays and indecision by national leaders and conflicting directions from national offices accelerated collapse. Today too commentators are asking whether the Congress high command has acted quickly or decisively enough to resolve the Siddaramaiah-Shivakumar standoff before it reaches a point of no return.

Then, the alliance between JD(S) (primarily Vokkaliga-leaning leadership) and BJP sought to capture multiple caste blocs for power. Now, caste organisations within Karnataka are warning that sidelining Shivakumar could alienate Vokkaliga votes.

In 2006, the rotational Chief Ministership was accepted as a necessity and in 2025, similar rumours of a two-and-a-half-year power-sharing agreement have taken hold.

Sourav Ganguly's Wife Files Complaint Against Social Media Abuse

Renowned Odissi dancer Dona Ganguly has lodged a complaint with the police after being allegedly targeted with abusive and derogatory remarks on social media, an officer said on Friday.

The dancer, also the wife of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, filed the formal complaint with Thakurpukur police station, following which the police started an investigation against unidentified persons.

"The abusive posts emerged around Dona Ganguly's dance performance at the Kolkata Film Festival. The complaint specifically pointed to a Facebook page that targeted her," the police officer said.

In the complaint lodged on Wednesday evening, she alleged that through the social media page, users not only "body shamed" her but also insulted her, causing damage to her reputation.

"She has described these acts as defamatory and stated that the posts were intended to tarnish her honour," the officer said, adding that Dona Ganguly provided screenshots of the abusive posts along with a mobile number associated with the Facebook page.

"We are working to identify the individuals responsible for the offensive posts. We are tracing the posts and the associated mobile number to identify the perpetrators," he added.

Putin Calls Zelensky's Leadership 'Illegitimate', Says Peace Deal Senseless

Russia's President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the Ukrainian government is illegitimate and that it was senseless to sign any agreements with them.

He said that US President Donald Trump's plan was "a set of issues put forward for discussion" rather than a draft agreement, adding that it could become the basis of future agreements.

He said the Kyiv leadership lost legitimacy after refusing to hold elections when President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's elected term expired. Meanwhile, Kyiv said it cannot hold elections while under martial law and defending its territory against Russia.

The Russian leader said that although the US was considering Russia's position, there are other things that need to be discussed.

"We need to sit down and discuss this seriously," Putin told reporters at the end of a three-day visit to Kyrgyzstan. "Every word matters."

He explained that hostilities will cease if Ukrainian troops withdraw from territories they occupy. "If they don't withdraw, we will achieve this by force," he said.

Putin has previously demanded that Ukraine completely withdraw from the entirety of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions before Russia considers any sort of "peace negotiations", notably including areas of each of those oblasts that Russia does not occupy.

He also wants to keep Ukraine from joining NATO and hosting any Western troops, allowing Moscow to gradually pull the country back into its orbit.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff will visit Moscow next week, while US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll may be heading to Kyiv.

Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022, triggering the worst armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

UP Man Thrashes Wife, Leaves Home. Then She Video Calls Him, Hangs Herself

What started as a love story ended in a tragedy in Uttar Pradesh.

A woman died by suicide during a video call with her husband after a fight between them in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Wednesday.

The man, Shubham Diwakar, was an alcoholic. When he returned home in the Ramlala Mohalla area of Rawatpur from work on Wednesday evening, he asked his wife, Mona, for money to buy alcohol. When she refused, an enraged Diwakar beat her up brutally. After the assault, he took the money from her and left the house to drink.

Sixteen minutes later, a weeping Mona allegedly made a WhatsApp video call to him and hung herself in front of him. Diwakar allegedly rushed home to save her, but the door was locked from the inside. The door was broken down by the police who arrived at the spot after being informed by the neighbours. By then, she had already died. The officials also gave her CPR in an attempt to revive her but to no avail.

Mona and Shubham Diwakar had a love marriage seven years ago. She is survived by her husband and two children. Diwakar used to work at a private company, and she worked as a 'welcome girl', who greeted guests at wedding functions, to support the family.

When her friends, who worked with her, received the news of her death, they rushed outside the postmortem house where her body was taken. The angry women surrounded Mona's husband and beat him up. The commotion continued for about two hours. Mona's friends also accused Diwakar of deleting all call history from Mona's mobile phone to destroy evidence.

Rawatpur police station in-charge Manoj Mishra said Mona's family has not filed any complaint so far. If any complaint is received, appropriate action will be taken, he said.

The neighbours of the couple, meanwhile, have claimed that Diwakar used to torture her often after drinking.

Engineering Students Arrested In Rs 90-Crore Cyber Scam In Puducherry

Puducherry's Cyber Crime Police have uncovered a large-scale cyber-fraud network allegedly operated from inside an engineering college, turning it into what investigators call a "hotspot for cyber crime." The racket, linked to a Rs 90-crore scam, involved students selling bank accounts of friends and classmates to cyber-criminals who allegedly laundered the money through India before converting it into cryptocurrency via networks in Dubai and China.

The case broke after two engineering students, Dinesh and Jayapratap, approached the police when their bank accounts were suddenly frozen. They had handed over their account details to their friend Harish - now an accused - who had allegedly collected details of over 20 bank accounts from students and members of the public. These were used as "mule accounts" to park scam proceeds. Investigators say at least Rs 7 crore was withdrawn through these accounts.

Seven persons - including four engineering graduates - have been arrested so far: Thomas alias Hayagriva, Harish, Ganesan, Govindaraj, Yashwin, Rahul and Ayyappan. Police seized Rs 5 lakh in cash, 171 cheque books, 75 ATM cards, 20 mobile phones, laptops, computers, several bank passbooks, credit cards and a Hyundai Verna car.

A key accused, Ganesan, allegedly coordinated with cyber-criminals in China to convert withdrawn funds into cryptocurrency, sending them via Telegram in exchange for commissions.

Speaking to NDTV, Puducherry's Senior Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Nithya Radhakrishnan, IPS, said the arrests mark a breakthrough not just against the "mules" but against those enabling online fraudsters. "We have been able to apprehend those who were laundering money for cyber-criminals, not merely the account holders. This shows how organised and international these networks have become," she said.

She warned that sharing bank credentials, even with friends, could have serious legal and financial consequences.

The Puducherry Police have reiterated their appeal to the public not to share bank account details, ATM cards or online banking credentials with anyone, and never allow others to operate their accounts.

Gill Breaks Silence After Gambhir-Coached India's 408-Run Loss To SA

Skipper Shubman Gill, who missed the second Test due to a neck injury, struck a defiant tone of unity and resolve after India's 0-2 series loss to South Africa, saying the team would "rise stronger" despite the setback. The two-Test series ended in humiliation for India as South Africa completed a clean sweep, defeating the hosts by 408 runs in the second Test at Guwahati -- their first series win on Indian soil in 25 years. South Africa had defeated India in the opening Test in Kolkata by 30 runs.

The loss triggered widespread criticism and discussion around the team's performance and leadership with fans booing coach Gautam Gambhir. "Calm seas don't teach you how to steer, it's the storm that forges steady hands. We'll continue to believe in each other, fight for each other, and move forward - rising stronger," Gill wrote in 'X' on Wednesday.

Gill had retired hurt on four after suffering neck spasm in India's first innings of the Eden Test.

He was subsequently hospitalized and ruled out of the rest of the match.

Gill had travelled to Guwahati but was released on the eve of the Test.

Gautam Gambhir didn't blame any individual for the debilitating 408-run defeat against South Africa in the second Test but dropped enough hints that he was livid with India's stand-in skipper Rishabh Pant for "playing to the gallery".

Gambhir's par-for-the course fiery post-match press conference had one anomaly though -- he was a bundle of contradictions through and through those 15 odd minutes.

India were 95 for one, but things went downhill from thereon with the hosts left stuttering at 122 for seven, largely due to Marco Jansen's exploits with the red cherry.

Pant gave charge to Jansen when he needed to show some discretion, and that shot possibly was the worst of all the dismissals.

After the 0-2 series defeat, Gambhir was asked if he would have expected better from Pant, who is now one short of 50 Test matches.

"You don't blame one individual shot. You don't blame one individual playing in a certain way. You blame everyone. So, me talking about an individual, I've never done that. I am not going to do it," Gambhir said in a no-nonsense manner after fronting up at the media conference.

He was very clear that he didn't want to "brush things under the carpet".

"Getting Used To Sitting At Home": Rohit Sharma Makes Stunning Remark

Rohit Sharma showed patience and panache, attributes that defined both his batting and persona for the longest time, after being named the brand ambassador of the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup. Many months into his retirement from T20I and Test format, the 38-year-old titan of Indian cricket on Tuesday said he is getting used to sitting at home and watching the action unfold on TV instead of being part of it. Rohit though continues to play the ODI format and it's rare for an active cricketer to be announced as brand ambassador of an ICC event, something that made him feel extremely honoured. "I was told by someone that while playing no one has been announced as an ambassador so it's a great privilege and honour for me," Rohit said here during the unveiling of the schedule for the upcoming showpiece that will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.

Rohit captained reigning champions India to glory at the previous T20 World Cup in 2024, and he is already hoping for an encore by the Suryakumar Yadav-led side in front of the home crowd.

"Hopefully we can create again the magic which we created last year with a different bunch of boys. It's a huge task to win an ICC event and in my 18 years I have been fortunate to win two recently. To finally come out and win those trophies feel good," Rohit said.

Moving away from the two formats has not been easy but Rohit is gradually learning to get used to this life by spending quality time with his family, training and attending social events.

"To sit on other side and watch, having played in each of these (T20) World Cups so far, will feel different. I am getting used to sitting at home and watching," Rohit said after being named the brand ambassador by ICC chairman Jay Shah.

Rohit has been prolific for India in T20Is, ending with 4231 runs at an average of 32.01 and a strike-rate of 140.89.

Lauds India women's team's WC triumph

Always known to back his teammates to the hilt, Rohit was full of praise for the Indian women's squad for its recent World Cup triumph, which was achieved after years of heartbreak.

With Indian women's team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also in attendance, Rohit said, "I know what they have gone through all these years. I can understand the feeling of setbacks year after year for not winning the trophy.

"I was there, that's the moment you live and work hard for and I am sure a lot of hard work has gone in before that World Cup started. I was just asking her after the England game, the coach (Amol Muzumdar), I know him well and understand him very well and I was asking her if he was calm and the answer was not surprising. He is very passionate.

"Even though I was not there, I could feel what happened after the England game. For them to lift the trophy, I was there to watch that, it was a great feeling not just for me but for the entire nation," Rohit said of the women's team's maiden world title.

Rohit retired from the shortest format following India's triumph in the Americas last year, which broke an 11-year drought of ICC trophies for the Indian team.

Speaking about the groupings in the upcoming T20 World Cup, he said, "Our Group has Pakistan, USA, Netherlands and Namibia. You cannot go into any tournament thinking... you cannot take the foot off the pedal and have to be (on top of your game) from ball one.

"All these teams are quite competitive and every team comes very well prepared. I am quite amazed to see Italy also there," Rohit said.

"Hope to see many more teams from Europe, Africa and even South East Asia and eventually we will see that because the sport has taken a giant leap," he added.

Alabama School's 'Teacher Of The Year' Faces Charges After Assaulting Son

A former Alabama "Teacher of the Year," Randi Nicole Staples, has been arrested and fired after a horrific video of her allegedly beating her 12-year-old son with a belt was shared on social media by the boy's older brother. Staples, 44, is a former second-grade teacher at Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, Alabama.

A video, reportedly filmed by another family member inside the home, shows Staples repeatedly hitting her 12-year-old son with a belt, yelling profanities, and at one point, lifting him by his hair. Reports indicate the boy was struck more than 20 times in a short period. The incident reportedly occurred because the boy had not completed his chores.

"I didn't feel like, you know, she should be working at the school or even doing that to my little brothers. You know, she done it to me my whole life, so I'm 24. Something about he wasn't cleaning the kitchen like he was supposed to be, he left, went to the neighbor's house, come back and then it transpired into that," Staple's eldest son, Jackson Staples told Fox 10.

Staples was arrested and charged with willful abuse of a child under the age of 18, a felony offence. She has since entered a plea of not guilty. Although the incident happened off-campus, Cottage Hill Christian Academy immediately placed Staples on administrative leave, launched an investigation, and subsequently terminated her employment.

"Cottage Hill Christian Academy is committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centered environment for all students. This commitment guides every action our school takes regarding student welfare and staff conduct."

Jackson Staples said that his younger brothers are currently staying with their aunt in Baldwin County. Nicole is set to appear in court on Friday for a formal bond hearing related to a child abuse case.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch described the actions as "repulsive" and "way beyond any form of discipline."

"I mean I'm all about disciplining a child if you have problems with them, you know, if that involves a spanking, you know, everybody disciplines their children different ways, but that was way above and beyond any form of discipline. The fact that another person in the home felt the need to video…that is somewhat telling," he said.

4-Year-Old Hung From Tree For Not Completing Homework In Chhattisgarh School

In a shocking incident that has raised disturbing questions about child safety in schools, two women teachers at Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir in a village in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur allegedly inflicted brutal punishment on a four-year-old student for not completing his homework.

The child was stripped, tied with a rope, and hung from a tree inside the school campus in Narayanpur village, an act that has sparked outrage after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The horrific video, recorded by a young man from a nearby rooftop, shows the child hanging helplessly from the tree while two teachers, identified as Kajal Sahu and Anuradha Dewangan, stand nearby. The clip was posted on social media, quickly gaining widespread attention and prompting immediate intervention from authorities.

Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir, a school that runs classes from nursery to eighth grade, opened as usual on Monday morning. Children arrived on time and classes began. In the nursery class, teacher Kajal Sahu was checking homework when she found that one child had not completed his assignment. According to reports, the teacher became angry, expelled the child from the class, and soon after handed out a punishment that stunned the entire village.

She tied the child's shirt with a rope and hung him from a tree inside the school premises. The four-year-old dangled helplessly for hours.

He cried, screamed, and repeatedly begged the teacher to let him down, but she ignored his pleas. Santosh Kumar Sahu, a family member of the child, expressed deep anger at the school management, alleging gross negligence and cruelty. He demanded strict action against the teachers responsible for the inhumane punishment.

After the video went viral, Block Education Officer (BEO) DS Lakra immediately reached the school for an on-ground inquiry. He stated that the investigation report will be forwarded to senior officials for further action. District Education Officer (DEO) Ajay Mishra confirmed that the incident has come to his notice.

Following the uproar, the education department dispatched cluster in-charge Manoj Yadav to the school for an on-ground investigation. He confirmed that the actions taken by the teachers were "completely wrong" and stated that a detailed report has been submitted to senior district officials. The school management has also admitted fault. The administrator publicly apologised, calling it a "serious lapse." One of the accused teachers, speaking to NDTV, said, "Yes, I made a mistake... This is the first time. I didn't do it intentionally."

Meerut 'Blue Drum' Murder Suspect Muskan Gives Birth To Baby Girl

Muskan, who is in Meerut jail for the gruesome murder of her husband Saurabh Rajput and hiding his body in a blue drum, gave birth to a baby girl at the local medical college hospital on Monday evening, jail officials said.

Senior Jail Superintendent Dr Viresh Raj Sharma told PTI that Muskan was brought to the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College here around 11.30 pm on Sunday after her labour pain increased.

Dr Shakun Singh, head of the Obstetrics Department, told PTI that the newborn weighed 2.4 kg and doctors successfully attempted a normal delivery. Both mother and child are healthy, jail officials said.

The senior jail superintendent said Muskan's family members have been informed. However, no one from the family visited Muskan at the hospital.

According to the hospital administration, Muskan's condition remained normal throughout the day, and she was continuously monitored. Given the sensitivity of the matter, police deployment has been increased around the main entrance and wards of the hospital.

Officials said that special instructions have been issued regarding security arrangements, and medical records are also being compiled from time to time.

Saurabh was killed on the night of March 4 at his house in Indiranagar in Meerut district. Muskan and her alleged lover, Sahil Shukla, are accused of drugging him and stabbing him to death.

It is alleged that they dismembered Saurabh's body, severing his head and hands, and hid the body parts in a blue drum filled with cement.

After the incident, both of them went to Himachal Pradesh.

The investigation into the sensational case revealed that Muskan had allegedly been planning the murder since November 2023, according to the police.

Saurabh was killed "not because of tantra-mantra, but because he was an obstacle in their love affair," the police claimed.

Muskan was arrested along with Sahil on March 18. Earlier, Muskan "confessed" to her family before she and Sahil were arrested.

Police sources said that according to the initial plan, the two accused wanted to pack the body in a suitcase and throw it away. A piece of bone was also found in the suitcase.

India, Canada Look To Reset Ties As Talks Begin On Key Trade Deal CEPA

In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, India and Canada have agreed to launch negotiations on a high-ambition Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), marking a major reset in ties after years of turbulence. The development was announced following a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders' Summit in Johannesburg today.

The Canada-India CEPA negotiations began in 2010 and gained momentum in 2022 with enhanced cooperation in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and critical and rare earth minerals, as well as in areas like tourism, urban infrastructure, renewable energy and mining. The talks were suspended by Canada in 2023.

According to a statement issued by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) late Sunday, both sides committed to pursuing an ambitious trade pact aimed at doubling bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030. The renewed engagement also includes deepening longstanding civil nuclear cooperation and advancing discussions on long-term uranium supply arrangements, an area of shared strategic interest.

This diplomatic thaw comes after a prolonged period of strain between New Delhi and Ottawa. Over the past several years, India has repeatedly raised concerns about the Khalistani extremist networks operating from Canadian soil, which it says pose a direct threat to India's national security. Ties deteriorated sharply in 2023 after former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau levelled unsubstantiated allegations against India regarding the killing of a Canadian citizen linked to Khalistani separatism. India dismissed the claims as politically motivated and lacking evidence, leading to reciprocal diplomatic downsizing and a freeze in trade negotiations.

The shift in tone began earlier this year, driven by sustained engagement between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Canadian counterpart Anita Anand. The two leaders met multiple times, paving the way for confidence-building measures and the gradual restoration of normal diplomatic channels. In October 2025, both countries formally announced the normalisation of diplomatic ties, including the reinstatement of High Commissioners in New Delhi and Ottawa.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking to the media earlier on Sunday, said, "Canada is reengaging pragmatically with global giants India and China. Yesterday, Canada, India and Australia formed a new trilateral partnership on technology and innovation, which will accelerate our cooperation in critical and emerging technologies. The partnership will draw on our strengths and will focus on clean energy, critical minerals and artificial intelligence to unlock more opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses".

The potential trade deal is likely to include goods, services, investments, agriculture, digital trade, labour mobility and sustainable development, including the mutual interest in advancing the use of AI and digital technology.

The Johannesburg meeting appears to have consolidated that momentum. Apart from CEPA, PM Modi and Carney welcomed the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACTI) Partnership aimed at boosting trilateral cooperation in critical technologies, AI, nuclear energy, and supply chain diversification.

With negotiations on CEPA set to begin and high-level exchanges back on track, India and Canada now stand poised to rebuild a partnership once considered jeopardised. The coming months will test whether this political reset can translate into durable economic and strategic gains for both nations.

'You Have Votes, I Have Funds': Ajit Pawar's 'Threat' To Voters In Malegaon

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar set the cat among the pigeons while campaigning for local elections when he appeared to threaten voters, saying he would release funds he had promised only if all of his party's candidates were elected.

Addressing a rally for the Nagar Panchayat elections at Malegaon in Baramati tehsil on Friday, the NCP chief, who also holds the Finance portfolio, said the party had fielded 18 candidates.

"The Centre and the state have many schemes. The Prime Minister, chief minister and both deputy chief ministers have worked on these together. If all of us work together and implement these schemes properly, we can ensure development for Malegaon," Pawar said.

"I will ensure there is no shortage of funds if you elect all 18 NCP candidates. If you elect all of them, I will fulfil whatever I have promised. But if you 'cut' my candidates, I will also "cut" (the funds). You have the power to vote, and I have the power to release funds. Now decide what you want to do," he said.

The Opposition slammed the deputy chief minister's remarks and also wondered why the Election Commission has not taken any action.

"Funds are given from the taxes paid by the common people and not from Ajit Pawar's house. If a leader like Pawar is threatening voters, what is the Election Commission doing?" Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasheb BT) leader Ambadas Danve was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Elections for Nagar Panchayats will be held on December 2.

Earlier Remarks

This is not the first time Pawar has landed himself in hot water with his comments. In January, he was scheduled to address a public meeting in his Assembly constituency of Baramati when he was handed memoranda with demands.

An angry Pawar had then said, "You have voted for me, but that doesn't mean you own me."

In September, Pawar had sparked a controversy when he was accused of threatening a woman police officer who was cracking down on illegal excavation in Solapur.

The officer, who had been posted to Maharashtra only recently, was handed a phone by an NCP worker and told Pawar was on the line. She informed the deputy chief minister she did not recognise his voice and asked him to call on her cellphone.

"Main tere upar action lunga (I will act against you). Tujhe mujhe dekhna hai na? Tera number de do ya WhatsApp call karo. Mera chehra toh aapko samajh mein aaega na? (You want to see me, right? Give me your number or call me on WhatsApp. You will recognise my face, right?)... Itna aapko daring hua hai kya (How dare you?)," he asked the officer, before video-calling her and asking her to stop the action she was taking.

Pawar had later claimed he was not threatening the officer or interfering with the law, but was trying to prevent an escalation in the situation on the ground.

In 2013, the NCP leader had mocked a farmer who had been on a hunger strike for nearly two months, demanding water be released from a dam in the drought-hit state.

"There is this person from Solapur, sitting on hunger strike for 55 days, demanding water be released from the dam. But where are we going to get water from? Should we urinate? And when we don't have water to drink, it's hard to pass urine as well," he had said.

How Ukraine Intelligence Used AI Lover, Beer To Nearly Kill Russian Official

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) says it has uncovered a plot to poison a high-ranking Russian officer of the Ministry of Defence in an attack disguised as a gift from an online love interest.

According to the FSB, the officer narrowly avoided consuming beer that investigators say had been doctored with a British-made version of nerve agent VX, a substance capable of killing within 20 minutes. The bottles were intercepted before the officer could drink them, and a resident of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) was taken into custody.

The officer told Russian media that the chain of events began months earlier, when he met a woman named Polina on an online application. Their exchanges soon shifted to Telegram, where she regularly sent photos and videos of herself.

"She sent me photos and videos from the gym several times, all roughly the same. After a few months of our communication, she said she wanted to give me a gift, which she would deliver through a friend," he told Russian media.

The "friend" was the man now under arrest. FSB officials say he had been instructed by Ukraine's military intelligence service, the GUR, and had been promised $5,000 for delivering two packages of British beer.

Polina, investigators say, was never a real person at all but a manufactured profile created by the GUR through artificial intelligence to lure the officer into the trap.

"Based on the results of the tests on the confiscated bottles, it was established that the beer contained a mixture of highly toxic poisons, colchicine and tert-butyl bicyclophosphate (an analogue of the military-grade nerve agent VX, banned by the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention), produced in Britain, which, when consumed, causes an agonising death within 20 minutes," the FSB noted.

The "friend" contacted the officer, arranged a meeting point, and handed over the package. Within moments, FSB personnel intervened and detained him.

"I was ordered to carefully place the package on the ground. After which they explained to me that the bag contained beer, which contained a military-grade poison intended to eliminate me, and that Polina's account was used by Ukrainian intelligence officers," he said.

Hate Lessons: How Kerala Mother Helped UK-Based Man Radicalise Her Teen Son

The Kerala Police FIR into the alleged ISIS indoctrination of a 15-year-old boy identifies his mother as an active participant in the effort to radicalise him, working in coordination with a UK-based ISIS supporter. The document, accessed by NDTV, sets out in detail how the minor was allegedly exposed to ISIS propaganda, instructed to hate other religions, and encouraged to adopt the terror group's ideology.

Filed under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the FIR names two primary accused. The first, identified as Anzar, is described in the document as a member of the so-called Islamic State terror organisation, currently residing in Leicester in the United Kingdom. According to investigators, he allegedly showed the teenager graphic ISIS murder videos on his laptop and presented the group's ideology as the "greatest path of Islam". The FIR states that Anzar urged the boy to embrace ISIS as the "true path of Islam" and sought to cultivate hostility toward other religions.

The second accused is the boy's mother, Fidha Mohammed Ali, who investigators say supported and enabled the radicalisation attempt. The FIR records that she allegedly acted in coordination with Anzar. Police sources say the working assumption is that both individuals jointly influenced, guided and attempted to indoctrinate the minor.

The Kerala Police believe the case may reflect a wider network. Preliminary indications, according to sources, suggest sleeper elements linked to the terror group could be functioning in parts of the state. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has begun a preliminary inquiry and is preparing for a full takeover of the probe. Once jurisdiction shifts, the Kochi NIA office will register a fresh FIR and assume control of the investigation.

The case has further significance because of Anzar's family background. NDTV earlier reported that his brother, Siddhiqul, was convicted in the 2016 Kanakamala ISIS conspiracy case. In that case, eight individuals were charge-sheeted for allegedly plotting attacks in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Sources said that although Anzar was placed under surveillance during the 2016 investigation, he was not charged because he was living in Ukraine at the time. A retired NIA officer told NDTV that investigators may now consider alerting Interpol to facilitate Anzar's deportation.

The ongoing inquiry has also led officers to re-examine all previously listed suspects from the 2016 case to determine whether any dormant networks may have been revived. According to NIA officials, each person earlier chargesheeted or named in the Kanakamala investigation is being tracked again as part of the new assessment.

NRI Ready To Retire In South India But Worried About Language Issues

A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) on an H1B visa in the US, with savings of approximately $800,000 (Rs 6 crore), said he was considering returning to India due to "immigration uncertainties" and the stress of the process. The Delhi native sought the internet's help regarding where to settle in India, questioning if he should be concerned about potential language issues if he moves to the southern part of the country.

"At present, our net worth in the US is around $800,000, which is roughly equivalent to Rs 6 crore. Assuming I buy a decent deluxe home of Rs 3 crore, I think the remaining will give me enough dividends/interest cash flow for our expenses," the user wrote in the r/returnToIndia subreddit.

"Although we are originally from Delhi, we are exploring the idea of settling in a smaller southern city or town for retirement, somewhere with greenery, pleasant weather, and a slower pace of life."

The man said places like Ooty, Coimbatore, Kochi and other nature-rich towns appealed to him and his spouse as they offer the kind of environment where gardening and outdoor living can really thrive.

"One concern I do have is about the recent narrative around Hindi vs. southern languages. I want to understand how welcoming southern cities truly are toward people from the North," he questioned.

As the post gained traction, social media users provided mixed responses, with a section claiming that there was no significant language issue on the ground, while others pointed out that he was better off conversing in English or learning the local language.

"Languages matter, don't take this lightly," said one user, while another added, "Learn the local language and I think you should be ok. Initially, if you don't know the local language, switch to English as much as possible."

A third commented: "The anti-Hindi stuff is all only created by politicians and media. A few stupid people might be influenced by it, but you're unlikely to ever encounter them."

A fourth said: "Learn the local language and I think you should be ok. Initially, if you don't know the local language switch to English as much as possible."

Recently, another NRI went viral after highlighting that those settled abroad were hesitant to return to the homeland due to the "horrendous traffic" in Indian cities.

'Gold Renting' Explained: How The Rich Are 'Leasing' Out Gold For Income

Gold leasing or "renting" idle gold to jewellers and refiners is an emerging trend among investors. Gold prices have been hitting record highs this year, prompting wealthy investors to rethink how they use their bullion. Instead of letting their gold bars sit idle in vaults, many are now leasing them to refiners, jewellers, and manufacturers in exchange for interest, challenging the very notion of gold as a non-yielding asset.

"People are no longer just buying gold and waiting for it to go up to $5,000," Keith Weiner, founder and CEO of Monetary Metals told CNBC.

Demand for gold leasing has also spiked in India, driving lease rates from 2-3% to 6-7% in recent months. Factors like the festival season, weddings, and a supply shortage have pushed gold prices up. Digital gold apps and monetisation schemes have made it possible for everyday investors to earn extra income.

Turning Gold Into A Source Of Income

This strategy provides a way to generate passive income from a non-yielding asset, which appeals to investors looking for additional returns beyond gold's appreciation in value. Gold leasing activity has seen a sharp rise in 2025, with one firm reporting a jump in leasing volume from 2 million to 40 million, CNBC reported. It reflects a broader trend of investors looking to generate returns even from traditionally passive assets.

"We're getting a lot of calls from people saying, 'I have $2 million of gold bars, I have $1 million of gold bars, can you help me lease it out? There's been a huge change in the last few months, and a lot of wealthy clients are now receptive to the idea of leasing gold," said Gaurav Mathur, founder of SafeGold.

How Does It Work?

The gold leasing process works like a loan, but instead of cash, the asset is denominated in ounces of gold.

Investors lend gold to a leasing platform or financial institution, which then loans it to businesses needing the metal for production. Jewellers, refiners, or manufacturers use the gold to make products, avoiding the need to borrow money or risk gold price fluctuations. They sell the finished items at current prices, pay a lease rate (interest in gold), and return the same amount of gold or renew the lease when it matures.

Investors receive returns, typically in the form of additional grams of gold, which can range from 2-7% annually. The lease tenure can vary from several weeks to months. At the end of the term, the original amount of gold, along with the accumulated yield, is credited back to the investor's digital account. It's a way to diversify portfolios and hedge against economic uncertainty, inflation, and currency fluctuations.

Billionaires like Eric Sprott and Seth Klarman endorse gold as a safeguard against financial instability.

What Are The Risks?

One of the primary risk is if the borrower, such as a jeweller or refiner, defaults or goes bankrupt, the lender may not recover their gold. There's also market volatility to consider. If gold prices rise sharply during the lease period, the lender may lose out on potential gains from selling.

Liquidity risk is another factor, as leased gold may not be immediately retrievable if the lender needs it back. Operational risks such as mishandling, loss, or theft during transport or use also pose threats. Additionally, interest rate risk exists, as returns from leasing may not keep pace with inflation or other investment opportunities. Lastly, lenders may face reputational risk if their gold is used by companies engaged in unethical practices.

To mitigate this, many platforms implement safety protocols. Many companies conduct extensive due diligence and partner with established jewellers. Some also secure the leased gold with a bank guarantee.

Risks For Small Investors

Leasing physical gold isn't ideal for small holders. It's better to hold or invest in structured gold instruments that match your scale and risk appetite.

  • Most gold leasing programs, especially those run by refiners or institutions, require larger quantities, often in hundreds of grams or more, to make logistics and processing worthwhile.
  • You may not get your gold back easily or quickly, which defeats one of gold's main purpose as a asset.
  • Such leasing options are often available only to institutional or HNI investors (High Net-Worth Individuals)
  • For small investors, it's better to hold gold in forms like SGBs (Sovereign Gold Bonds), which offer fixed interest and capital appreciation, or invest through digital gold or ETFs if liquidity and security are priorities.

Watch: Robot Dances For Putin Days After Another Russian Robot Stumbled

An AI-powered robot danced for President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday at an exhibition put on by Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, designed to showcase the company's technological advances.

The performance, which was shown on state TV, showed the Kremlin chief standing opposite the humanoid robot as it explained to him what it was before dancing to what it said was its favourite track.

"My name is Green. I am the first Russian humanoid robot with embedded artificial intelligence. This means that I am not just a programme on a screen, but a physical embodiment of technology," the robot told Putin.

Sberbank says the robot's software will be constantly upgraded and that it has the potential to perform physical tasks, and that a pilot project will see it integrated into parts of its business.

The unusual event was watched closely by Putin's bodyguards, one of whom stood between the robot and the Russian leader afterwards to make sure it moved away from him and did not get too close.

Putin called the robot's performance "very beautiful" and thanked it before continuing his tour.

The performance comes days after the Moscow presentation of another Russian robot, purported to harness AI - called Aidol - went wrong after the robot fell flat on its face shortly after appearing on stage.

Putin also inspected one of Sberbank's new generation smart cash machines, which, with the help of a camera, can give customers a summary of their health based on 10 indicators such as pulse and blood pressure.

Putin said at that event that he'd been through one of his regular health checkups recently and that everything was fine with him.

Viral Video Shows How This Scene From Ghajini Was Copied From A French Movie

Aamir Khan and Asin Thottumkal's Ghajini remains one of the most memorable Hindi films of 2008. A remake of the 2005 Tamil hit of the same name starring Suriya, the film itself was loosely inspired by Christopher Nolan's Memento. But beyond the widely known influences, a resurfaced clip has now revealed that one of Ghajini's most iconic moments may have been directly borrowed from another international film, the 2001 French masterpiece Amelie.

A scene from Amelie, featuring Audrey Tautou in the titular role, has been circulating online for its striking resemblance to a beloved sequence in Ghajini

In the French film, Amelie tenderly helps a blind man cross a busy street, narrating the world around him with sensory detail. She says, "We just passed the drum major's widow. She's worn his coat since the day he died. Careful. The horse's head on the butcher has lost an ear. That's the florist laughing and he has crinkly eyes. In the bakery window there are lollipops. Smell that! They are giving out melon slices. Sugarplum ice cream. We're passing the pork butcher. Now the cheese shop. Picodons are 12.90, cabecous 23.50. At the butcher's a baby is watching a dog that's watching the chickens roasting. Now we're at the newspaper kiosk by the metro. I'll leave you here. Bye."

In Ghajini, Asin's character performs a nearly identical act of kindness. She guides a blind man across the road while describing the surroundings. She says, "Girls are playing in the street in their uniform; a woman is beating her husband; radio is being played at a tea shop. Now we are crossing the temple and now we are at the main road and here is the bus stop."

Fans have pointed out the similarities, suggesting that this moment in Ghajini was not simply inspired but closely modelled on the French original.

The Two Films

Amelie (2001) is a whimsical French romantic comedy directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, while Ghajini (2008) is an action thriller directed by AR Murugadoss.
