Unable To Get A Car, Madhya Pradesh MLA Borrows Bike To Get To Assembly

Newly-elected Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Kamleshwar Dodiyar rode to Bhopal on motorcycle as he could not get a car, and broadcast his ride live through social media.

Dodiyar, the lone MLA of his party, was elected from the Sailana constituency in Ratlam district in the November 17 elections to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

He tried to arrange a car for his first visit to the state capital after becoming an MLA, but could not get one, he told reporters.

Finally he borrowed his brother-in-law's motorbike, pasted a sticker with the word "MLA" on it, and rode off with an associate braving chilly weather, Dodiyar said after reaching Bhopal on Wednesday night after a 330-km ride.

After reaching Bhopal, he found accommodation at the MLA Rest House as a `guest'.

On Thursday, he lay prostrate before the assembly's entry gate to pay his respects to the temple of democracy and then presented his credentials as an MLA before the officials.

In a post on social media, where he tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Ratlam police, Dodiyar said since he could not arrange a car for travelling to Bhopal to complete paperwork at the assembly, he was leaving on a motorbike and necessary security should be provided for him so that nothing untoward happens on the way.

He also broadcast his ride to Bhopal through Facebook Live.

As he belongs to the family of a poor labourer, he can not afford a four-wheeler, and he contested the election by borrowing money from people, he said.

Dodiyar, who defeated sitting Congress MLA Harsh Vijay Gehlot by 4,618 votes, is pursuing LLB from Delhi University.

While the BJP bagged 163 seats and the Congress 66 seats, BAP won the remaining one seat in the 230-member assembly.

Visible From Space: Gautam Adani Shares Pics Of Largest Green Park Project

Adani Group is setting up the world's largest green energy park in the Rann of Kutch desert area in Gujarat, covering a vast 726 sq km land mass.

In a post on X, group Chairman Gautam Adani said it will generate 30 GW to power over 20 million homes.

"Proud to play a crucial role in India's impressive strides in renewable energy as we build the world's largest green energy park. This monumental project, covering 726 sq km in the challenging Rann desert, is visible even from space. We will generate 30 GW to power over 20 million homes," said the Gautam Adani post.

"Also, just 150 km away, in our karmabhoomi Mundra, we are creating one of the globe's most extensive and integrated renewable energy manufacturing ecosystems for solar and wind. This marks a significant milestone in India's journey towards sustainable energy, underlining our commitment to the Solar Alliance and the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative."

The group chairman, along with the X post, shared a few pictures where the ongoing large-scale project could be seen taking shape.

This Adani Group project is expected to add to India's green energy capacity, besides helping in reaching its climate action pledges it made at COP.

India committed to an ambitious five-part "Panchamrit" pledge at COP26, held in 2021. They included reaching 500 GW of non-fossil electricity capacity, generating half of all energy requirements from renewables, to reducing emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030.

India also aims to reduce the emissions intensity of GDP by 45 per cent. Finally, India commits to net-zero emissions by 2070.

Donald Trump Predicts He Will Get 150 Million Votes In 2024 US Election

Former US President Donald Trump, during an event on December 5, predicted he would receive 150 million votes from the public in the 2024 US presidential election. Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, was appearing at a Fox News event before a friendly audience in Davenport, Iowa, the state where the party's nominating contest kicks off on January 15, the Independent reported.

The former US president said, ''We have never seen the likes of what we've all done together. It's not just me, it is everybody here and millions and millions. I think it's not 75 million people, I think it's 150 million people, even more than that. Who doesn't want to see strong borders and a strong military and low taxes and low intern states and go out and buy a house?''

At the event, he also said that he would not become a dictator if he becomes U.S. president again except "on day one", after warnings from Democrats and some Republicans that America was in danger of becoming an autocracy if he won the 2024 election.

The Republican presidential candidate had to be asked twice during a televised town hall event in Iowa to deny that he would abuse power to seek revenge on political opponents if re-elected to the White House.

"No. No. Other than day one," Trump said when asked to deny he would become a "dictator" if he wins the November election. Trump said on "day one" he referred to, he would use his presidential powers to close the southern border with Mexico and expand oil drilling.

Trump, seeking a second White House term in a likely election re-match with Democratic President Joe Biden, has frequently promised "retribution" on political opponents if he gains power again.

Trump was US president between 2017 and 2021 and has refused to concede that he lost to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Since then Trump has spread false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him, a conspiracy that fueled the deadly insurrection by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Trump's election lies also form a cornerstone of his current White House campaign.

Trump, however, is narrowly ahead in opinion polls despite facing some criminal trials including one for election subversion. Mr Biden's age is a particular concern with voters and there have been calls from some Democrats for him to step aside for a new candidate.

Karni Sena Chief Wrote To Ashok Gehlot, Top Cop, Got No Security: Wife

After the head of the fringe group Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena was shot dead at his Jaipur home, his wife has alleged that he had not been given security despite writing to the Rajasthan chief minister and the state police chief on several occasions, expressing apprehension about a threat to his life. The threat, she said, was a result of his "social work at the national and international level".

In the first information report (FIR) filed after Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi's killing, his wife, Shila Shekhawat, has also claimed that the Punjab Police had written to the Rajasthan Director General of Police Umesh Mishra in February about a plot to murder the Karni Sena chief and a similar input had also been given by the Jaipur Anti Terror Squad. She alleged that then chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Mr Mishra did not grant security cover to Gogamedi even after these inputs were received.

Three men shot Gogamedi multiple times from point-blank range at his Jaipur home on Tuesday, after having tea with him. While one of them was killed, two others are on the run.

Ms Shekhwat said she had read about the involvement of "international terrorist" Rohit Godara, who is hiding in Canada, as well as gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in her husband's killing. She alleged that many "foreign terrorists" were involved in the crime and Gogamedi had spoken of threats from them several times.

The two shooters who are on the run have been identified as Rohit Rathore and Nitin Fauji. Police sources said they may have been hired killers and that their arrest will be crucial in solving the case.

Gogamedi had also been named in several criminal cases and the police are exploring whether his killing was a result of an inter-gang rivalry.

The police have formed multiple teams to find the shooters and have announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh each for any information that leads to their arrest. The director general of police has also formed a special investigation team.

"Sachin Pilot's Phone Tracked During 2020 Rebellion": Ashok Gehlot's Aide

Outgoing Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's OSD Lokesh Sharma on Tuesday alleged that the then deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot's movements and phone were tracked and monitored by the Gehlot government in the run-up to and during the rebellion Pilot had staged in 2020.

There was no immediate reaction from Congress leaders Gehlot and Pilot or their aides on the allegations.

Mr Sharma, who was denied a ticket to contest the Rajasthan assembly polls and has been criticising Mr Gehlot for the party's defeat in the elections, also said if the incidents of September last year, when a legislature party meeting was not allowed to take place by Gehlot loyalists, had not happened and the Congress observers had carried out the agenda for which they had come, the picture in Rajasthan would have been different.

The Congress leadership wanted to effect a leadership change and bring in Mr Pilot as the chief minister.

He said the differences between Mr Gehlot and Mr Pilot "harmed" the party's prospects.

"When the political crisis of 2020 had come and Pilot ji had left with his 18 MLAs, then in such a situation, the government does put its machinery in to use and everyone is monitored, where do these people go, who do they meet and who do they speak with. So that is done and in that manner their monitoring was also done," Mr Sharma alleged.

He claimed that the monitoring was happening from before the rebellion as there was some idea that such a thing could happen.

Asked about the details of the monitoring, Mr Sharma told PTI, "I said monitoring was being done continuously which includes all these things -- movement, who are they speaking with, those things were being tracked and monitored."

Mr Sharma claimed that elections could have been fought better and the main reason for defeat was that ticket distribution was not done properly.

"There was no-anti incumbency against the government but people did not want to see many of the MLAs return as their representatives. Such reports were communicated to the chief minister. These were not just my reports but the AICC survey, and other reports were that sitting MLAs' tickets should be cut but it was not done," Mr Sharma claimed.

Asked why action had not been taken on the reports, he said, "You can say it was his (Gehlot's) stubbornness. He probably felt it was his moral duty towards those who had helped him save his government." Mr Sharma denied that he was making such allegations as he was denied a ticket.

He said it is up to the party to decide on his ticket which he was demanding as a party worker.

"I am saying so now as I want that corrective measures are taken as Lok Sabha polls are round the corner and it is important to set things right," he said.

On the day the Congress lost in Rajasthan, Mr Sharma had blamed Gehlot for the defeat in the assembly polls and said that his experience, magic and schemes could not bring the Congress back to power in the state.

On Monday, replying to a question on an earlier statement of Mr Sharma, Pilot had said, "I have seen the statement. It is strange. Because he was OSD to the chief minister, that's why it is a matter of concern. I believe the party will look into why he said so. And how much truth it holds."

Congress, BJP Mock AAP For Failing To Win A Single Seat In 3 State Polls

The opposition Congress and the BJP Tuesday ridiculed the AAP for failing to win even a single seat in the recently held assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and asked the ruling party to focus on Punjab.

While Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa said AAP government must learn a lesson from the election results, BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill claimed that the AAP's “exit countdown” has begun in Punjab.

“Although Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann squandered Punjab's exchequer in the poll-bound states, the AAP failed to even save its deposit,” Mr Bajwa, the leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly, said in a statement.

“The AAP government must learn lessons from the election results and start focusing on the state now,” he said.

BJP's Mr Shergill said the “exit countdown” of the AAP has begun and “the sun will set soon” for it in Punjab.

In a statement, Mr Shergill said the AAP contested over 200 seats in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh and lost all of them.

“The women voters of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh have given a clear message of trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said, adding “the women voters in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have taken revenge for betrayal and in the same way, revenge will be taken by women voters of Punjab.”

Talking specifically about the women voters of Punjab, Mr Shergill said that “betrayal and back-stabbing” aptly sums up what the AAP government has done to the women in Punjab.

He said having broken the pre-poll promise of giving Rs 1,000 per month to all the women above 18 years of age, the AAP government stands completely exposed before the people.

“It has been one year and nine months since AAP assumed power in Punjab but they continue to deprive about 1.31 crore eligible women of Rs 1,000 per month by not fulfilling their main poll promise,” he added.

Lashing out at the AAP government, Mr Shergill said, “Crores of rupees from the state exchequer have been wasted by the Bhagwant Mann-led state government for campaigning in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. But the people of these states did not buy the 'fake Punjab Model' and the AAP ended up securing fewer votes than NOTA.”

The BJP leader questioned if the Mann government can “waste” crore of rupees in an attempt to expand the party's footprints in other states and fulfil the political ambitions of Arvind Kejriwal, why cannot the government fulfil its promise of giving Rs 1,000 monthly financial aid to the women in its own state.

Meet "Bionic Teen" From UK Who Feels No Pain, Hunger Or Fatigue

A young girl in the United Kingdom has been nicknamed "bionic" after she was hit and dragged by a car but calmly got up and walked off afterwards. The accident took place in 2016 when she was only seven years old. As per the doctors, she has a genetic condition so unique she may be the only person in the world with the symptoms, as per a report in Huffington Post. The teenager, Olivia Farnsworth, has a rare chromosome condition known as chromosome 6 deletion, which does not make her feel pain, hunger or fatigue.

Her mother, Niki Trepak had said at that time that she had no "sense of danger". "Doctors have called her the bionic girl, she's made of steel. She's got no sense of danger. She got run over and dragged down the street by a car and she didn't complain," she added.

"She was dragged about ten car lengths down the road. It was horrendous, I don't think it's something I will ever get over. I was screaming and all my other children were screaming as she ran out But Olivia was just like, 'What's going on?' She just got up and started walking back to me. The hospital said she's bionic. Because of the impact she should have had severe injuries. She had a tyre mark on her chest. But her only injuries were she had no skin on her toe or her hip. The doctors were busy giving her CT scans, x-rays, trying to find injuries but there was nothing. She was really lucky. The doctors think what saved her from injury was she didn't tense up," she continued.

According to the mother, her daughter began to exhibit symptoms of her illness when she was just a few months old. Among the drawbacks of her daughter's illness, Niki stated that her hair didn't grow and she had terrible colic. "She had no hair until she was about four-and-a-half. People called her a boy all the time. She also once fell badly and ripped her lip off and didn't say anything. She had to have major plastic surgery to correct it," she told the outlet.

Ms Trepak also recalled Olivia stopped sleeping during the day when she was about nine months old. "But as she got older, she never needed sleep. She survived on about two hours a night and was never tired," she said. The mother then used medication to put her to sleep.

Ms Trepak then stated that Olivia started rejecting her milk when she was only a couple of months old. "She didn't feed, when she was nine months old she started rejecting my milk. I thought she didn't like it but since then, she's never liked food. She's almost become conditioned to eat, she eats at school because everyone else does but she doesn't really need it. She never gets hungry. At home she will go through phases of eating the same thing for months and months and then go off it - once it was milkshakes, once butter sandwiches, once chicken noodles," she added.

Recalling an incident where her daughter hurt her lip and needed plastic surgery to fix it, Ms Trepak said that she did not flinch once while the doctor examined her. "I remember when she was at nursery, one day they rang me and told me she'd fallen and her bottom teeth had gone through her bottom lip. When I arrived to take her to hospital, she wasn't even crying. She had to have plastic surgery and when the surgeon was examining her, he was pulling her lip and she wasn't even flinching. He said to me, there's something not right about her."

Meanwhile, chromosome 6p deletion is a "chromosome abnormality that occurs when there is a missing copy of the genetic material located on the short arm (p) of chromosome 6", as per the National Organisation for Rare Disorders. Individuals with chromosome 6p deletion frequently have behavioural issues, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and unique facial traits.

Man In Chennai Gets Stuck In Lift For 30 Minutes Amid Cyclone Michaung

Cyclone Michaung, currently swirling over the Bay of Bengal and heading towards the Andhra coast, has unleashed torrential rain upon Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Several parts of the city are waterlogged and without electricity as the relentless downpour paralysed daily life. On Monday, a person took to X to share his experience after he missed an early morning flight from Chennai airport amid Cyclone Michaung. Not only that, he also ended up getting stuck in the elevator of his Chennai home for about half an hour after a power cut.

"Crazy morning! Cyclone Michuang in Chennai, Uber couldn't reach our apartments due to flooding, missed the flight to Mumbai, and then when returning home - had a power cut - so stuck in the elevator for half an hour before being rescued by society people," Suryanarayan Ganesh wrote on X.

Here's the post:

In another tweet, he thanked his Uber driver who relentlessly tried to reach his location to drive him to the airport. He wrote, ''Special shoutout to @Uber_India driver Prakash - absolute hero - tried to get to me for half hour through various routes driving almost 10 kms before I gave up, he didn't. Do rate / reward him well, I did send a tip via GPay. The app should allow rating/tips even for cancellation.''

Many internet users enquired why he stepped out despite warnings from authorities. Mr Ganesh replied saying that he had a big client meeting in Mumbai.

One user wrote, ''No matter whats important work always follow weather updates or at least follow many handles in X to get updates on weather. Don't venture out it's not safe. Let this a lesson who takes it lightly.. and do follow my weather updates buddies... Stay safe.''

Another commented, ''You should have planned well given the circumstances. Stay safe. I hope the Uber driver is safe at home.''

Meanwhile, authorities have declared a public holiday today and tomorrow, shutting schools and colleges across the city, and dispatched rescue teams to avert any untoward incidents. Operations at the Chennai airport have been suspended till 9 am tomorrow - with about 70 flights canceled due to flooding of the runway and tarmac, the Airport Authority of India.

Box Office: "Sam Bahadur Stands On Its Feet Despite A Hurricane Called Animal"

Vicky Kaushal's Sam Bahadur is gradually gaining momentum at the box office. As per a Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "#SamBahadur stands on its feet, despite a hurricane called #Animal… Riding on glowing word of mouth, the day-wise growth - mainly at key metros - saw the biz witnessing a spike on Day 2 and 3… Fri 6.25 cr, Sat 9 cr, Sun 10.30 cr. Total: ₹ 25.55 cr. #India biz. Take a look at his post below.

About Sam Bahadur growing momentum at the box office, Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Sunday, "Sam Bahadur jumps on Day 2 [Saturday], with key metros recording excellent footfalls… A bigger number on Day 3 [Sunday] is clearly on the cards… Friday ₹ 6.25 crore, Saturday ₹ 9 crore. Total: ₹ 15.25 crore. #India biz. The real test begins tomorrow: the make-or-break Day 4 [Mon]… It needs to stay super-steady at its best-performing centres to leave a mark."

Sam Bahadur is receiving much love from fans and film critics alike. In his review for NDTV, Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 3.5 stars and wrote, “As the film flits from one point in time to another from the early 1940s (when Japanese soldiers march into Burma) to the early 1970s (when the Indian Army enters Bangladesh's war of liberation), it has its share of ellipses. But no matter how glaring the gaps are, they do not restrict the sweep of the consistently arresting saga. The screenwriters graft just enough narrative meat on to the condensed storyline to be able to do justice to the charismatic general whose career it explores in the context of the nation's eventful history before and after Independence.”

Sam Bahadur is the biopic of India's first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw. Beyond capturing the hearts of Bollywood enthusiasts, the film deeply moved Sam Manekshaw's daughter Maja Daruwala to tears. Maja Daruwala attended The Indian Express' Adda event with director Meghna Gulzar and Vicky Kaushal. At the event, she expressed, "They have made the film to make the country proud of whatever it was. But, the time that I tear up, every time, I've seen the film twice now and I teared up both times, is the last two seconds of the film when you turn to the audience and you're smiling. That just kills me every time." The emotional moment was captured and shared by a fan page on Twitter.

In addition to Vicky Kaushal, Sam Bahadur features Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra in important roles.
