Upset Over Salary Cut, Driver Started Bus Fire That Killed 4 In Pune: Cops

The fire on a private firm's minibus that killed four employees near Pune was allegedly an act of sabotage by a vengeful driver who had a dispute with some staffers and was also upset over a pay cut, police said on Thursday.

"Investigation revealed that the fire was not an accident but sabotage," deputy commissioner of police Vishal Gaikwad of Pimpri Chinchwad Police told PTI.

Janardan Hambardekar, the accused driver, had a dispute with some of the employees and wanted to take revenge, the official said. The driver was also disgruntled due to a salary cut, he said.

The employees against whom he held a grudge were not among the four who died, the DCP said.

The incident took place in the Hinjawadi area near Pune city on Wednesday morning as the bus, owned by Vyoma Graphics and carrying 14 of its employees to the workplace, caught fire.

"The accused had procured benzene (a highly inflammable chemical). He had also kept a cloth used to wipe toners in the bus. On Thursday, as the bus neared Hinjawadi, he lit a match and set the cloth on fire," said the DCP.

The accused jumped off the moving bus, which then continued about a hundred metres before coming to a halt, the official said. Hambardekar had already suffered burns before he got out, as per the probe.

The driver was undergoing treatment at a hospital and will be arrested later, the police official said.

Four of the employees - Shankar Shinde (63), Rajan Chavan (42), Gurudas Lokare (45) and Subhash Bhosale (44) - died as they were sitting in the rear and could not open the emergency exit door in time. Besides, six passengers sustained burn injuries.

Further probe was on, the DCP added.

Viral Video: Pak Journalist And Cop Argue In English, Internet in Splits

A hilarious video from Pakistan allegedly showing a reporter and a cop arguing in broken English is going viral on social media, leaving users in splits. The clip, shared on X, opens to show an alleged police officer accusing a reporter of making threats. The two appear to be arguing over a parking issue. While the journalist questions the cop about the legality of certain parked vehicles, the police officer, visibly agitated, reprimands the journalist for allegedly threatening him.

"I only say you, this is legal?" the journalist asks the cop, who immediately admits and says, "No". A few seconds into the video, both parties are heard saying, "Not legal. Not legal", only until the verbal fight gets more dramatic. The police officer then accuses the reporter of making threats. "This dumki (threatening) legal? My brother, you me stand," he says in crooked English. At this point, the journalist, taking a dig at the cop's grammar, says, "What is the meaning of 'you me stand'? I don't know".

The video concludes with the police officer insisting the journalist head to the SP's office to sort out the matter.

Watch the video below:

Since being shared, the video has garnered more than 191,000 views and several reactions. While some users found the clip amusing, others compared it to a conversation between Pakistani cricketers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.

"At least it is better than the English spoken by their cricketers," jokingly wrote one user. "After this I hope I haven't forgotten my English!!" commented another.

"Babar and Rizwan arguing about match strategy," said a third user. "A place where English took its last breath," wrote another.

One user joked, "Two first-standard kids showing off in English." Another noted, "The 3-language policy is important."

"Language is a tool for connection, not a measure of superiority. We must embrace our rich linguistic diversity while leveraging technology to enhance education. AI can bridge gaps, making learning accessible in every language. This is the future we need to build together," commented one user.

Screening To Continue After Visa Issuance: Why Indian Immigrants Are Worried

Ramping up its already strict immigration rules, the Trump administration has confirmed through its official X account that the visa screening does not stop after a visa is issued. The US Department of State stated visa holders are continuously monitored to ensure that they are complying with all US laws and immigration rules. This came along with a warning that those who fail to abide by these rules, may face revocation of visa or face deportation.

A Green Card or Permanent Residency Card grants individuals to work and live permanently in the United States. However, JD Vance has emphasised that having a Green Card does not guarantee indefinite residency. In an interview with Fox News, he said even if he had a favourable opinion of a Green Card holder, the individual still won't have an indefinite right to stay in the United States.

The State Department has reiterated this claim, stating that screening continues even after the visa is issued.

Conservatives of the country are pushing for policies that are making it difficult for immigrants - documented or undocumented - citing economic and national security reasons.

This has caused anxiety among Indian Green Card holders, particularly elderly people who spend the colder months in their home country and the rest in the US. Per TOI, CBP (Customs and Border Protection) officers target such individuals upon their return and pressurise them to sign Form I-407. The form is used to voluntarily abandon your status as a lawful permanent resident of the United States. People who resist face threats of deportation or detention. Officials interpret such prolonged stays abroad as a sign they no longer intend to stay in the US permanently.

This process has made people feel trapped and unable to visit their home country as they fear risking their status in the US. Immigration lawyers see this as an overreach by the CBP officers. However, elderly people might feel threatened to sign Form I-407.

India has been one of the largest sources of legal immigration for the US but uncertainty about Green Card holders has made people unsure of going ahead with the process.

Watch: Pak Batter Dismissed Hit-Wicket In Bizarre Manner, Internet In Disbelief

One of the most bizarre dismissal in the history of cricket took place during the National T20 Cup match between Lahore Region Whites and Larkana Region on Monday in Faisalabad. Opting to bat first, Lahore posted a whopping total of 215/4 in 20 overs with Mohammad Faiq scoring 116 off 56 balls. Later, Larkana could not even put up a strong fight as they got bundled out for just 81 with Lahore winning the match by 134 runs. Apart from this big win, Larkana batter Bilal Irshad's dismissal made headlines.

During the fourth over of Larkana's chase, Bilal Irshad tried to play a shot on Kamran Afzal's delivery. Even before Bilal played the shot, Lahore wicketkeeper Muhammad Akhlaq appealed for a dismissal.

Seeing this, Bilal and the umpires were left confused as they signalled third umpire. It was then revealed that while playing the shot, Bilal's bat had touched the stumps and dislodged the bails. Hence, Bilal was declared hit wicket out.

Talking about the match, this was Lahore's first victory in the second game as they move to the second spot in Group A points table.

On the other hand, this was Larkana's second consecutive defeat which pushed them down at the bottom of the table.

It was a completely dominating show from Lahore as Mohammad Faiq scored 116 off 56 balls. Apart from him, Muhammad Akhlaq scored 35 off 26 balls while skipper Tayyab Tahir scored 33 off 16 balls.

For Larkana, Mushtaq Ahmed took two wickets but also ended up leaking 51 runs in his four-over quota. Zahid Mahmood and Imitiaz Legari scalped one wicket in each.

Later in the chase, Lahore did not even Larkana breathe for a second as they kept on scalping wickets regularly. For Lahore, Kamran Afzal was the star bowler as he took four wickets while Mohammad Salman took two wickets as Larkana were bundled out for 81.

During Trump Call, Putin's "Key Condition" To Prevent Ukraine War Escalation

Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on Tuesday to a proposal by US President Donald Trump for Russia and Ukraine to stop hitting each other's energy infrastructure for 30 days and gave a corresponding order to the Russian military, the Kremlin said.

The Kremlin said in a statement that the two leaders had a "detailed and frank exchange of views" on Ukraine during a phone call in which Putin had said that a resolution of the conflict must be "comprehensive, sustainable and long-term", taking into account Russia's own security interests and the root causes of the war.

The two leaders discussed a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, to which Ukraine agreed last week. The Kremlin said Putin had raised "significant points" about monitoring such a truce and preventing it from being used by Ukraine to mobilise more soldiers and rearm itself.

"It was emphasized that the key condition for preventing the escalation of the conflict and working towards its resolution by political and diplomatic means should be a complete cessation of foreign military assistance and the provision of intelligence information to Kyiv," the Kremlin said.

Kim Sae-Ron Row: Why Good Day Is Deleting All Kim Soo-Hyun Scenes

Kim Soo Hyun is embroiled in controversy following revelations about his relationship with the late actress Kim Sae-Ron.

According to reports from the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute, which released a phone conversation with Sae-Ron's aunt, the two were allegedly in a secret relationship since 2015, when Sae-Ron was only 15 years old and Kim Soo Hyun was 27.

In response to the controversy, luxury brand Prada terminated its ambassador relationship with Kim Soo Hyun on March 14. In their statement, Prada explained: "We would like to inform you that after considering the severity of the issue, our collaboration with Kim Soo Hyun has been mutually concluded. The contract has been terminated. The decision came from headquarters."

The production team of the Korean drama Good Day is the latest one to take action against the actor. The team announced their decision to remove scenes featuring Kim Soo Hyun from the show.

They released a detailed statement apologising to viewers for the sudden changes and explaining the technical challenges involved.

According to their statement, Episode 5 was edited urgently to remove Kim Soo Hyun's footage from the Good Day General Assembly segment, resulting in an episode approximately 10 minutes shorter than usual with some narrative gaps.

The production team explained that pre-production requirements for translation meant that episodes were completed two weeks before airing, which complicated their response to the developing situation.

The statement also addressed a March 13 recording session that proceeded despite the controversy. The production team explained they had been waiting for an official statement from Kim Soo Hyun's agency, which informed them that their statement would be released the following week and that securing the actor's schedule after that date would be difficult.

The team ultimately conducted the recording with "careful consideration," minimising interaction with other cast members and preparing for the possibility of editing the footage.

For future episodes, the production team has decided to edit out Kim Soo Hyun's appearances as much as possible and the individual recording session from March 13 will not be aired. They expressed concern that the controversy could damage the show's reputation and the sincerity of other cast members.

Beyond Prada and Good Day, other brands are reportedly reassessing their relationships with the actor. Vegan beauty brand Dinto has suspended all promotional activities featuring Kim Soo Hyun, and bakery chain Tous les Jours has removed advertisements featuring him from their social media accounts as of March 12.

Kim Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, initially denied romantic involvement between the actor and Kim Sae-Ron but later confirmed, though they claimed the relationship began only after Sae-Ron turned 19, the legal age in Korea. The agency also acknowledged that Soo Hyun had been "guiding" Sae-Ron since she was 15.

Reports suggest that Kim Sae-Ron, whose career suffered significantly following a 2022 DUI incident where she crashed into public property while intoxicated, faced substantial financial pressure afterwards.

She reportedly accumulated a 700 million won debt following the DUI case, which Kim Soo Hyun's agency allegedly pressured her to repay, threatening legal action when she requested more time.

The agency also reportedly prevented assistance from her The Man from Nowhere co-star Won Bin, who had offered to help with the debt.

Kim Sae-Ron died on Kim Soo Hyun's birthday this year.

'If He Is Hearing Me...": Ganguly Sends Big 'Responsibility' Message To Rohit

Former Indian cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly urged Rohit Sharma to take more responsibility - both as skipper as well as batter - in the upcoming Test series against England. Rohit had a disastrous outing the series against Australia but the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph has more or less guaranteed his position as India captain. Ganguly praised Rohit's skills in white-ball cricket but quickly pointed out that India have not been that great in Test cricket off late. In a recent interaction, Ganguly sent a massive message to Rohit and asked him to turn things around for the side.

"What has surprised me is his form in red ball over last 4-5 years. A player of his stature and ability, he can do much better than what he has done. He must put on his thinking cap because we have 5 Tests against England and that's going to be another hard series. Just like the way it was in Australia. It's going to seam; it's going to swing. India need him to perform in the red ball but in white ball, he is one of the greatest ever," Ganguly said during Trailblazers 3.0, by RevSportz.

Ganguly added that leadership is extremely important in a series like the one against England and as a result, Rohit's role will be crucial if India want to turn their fortunes around.

"Leadership is very important. I have always said that Rohit Sharma is a fabulous captain. Because that's what I see, that's what I notice when he is captaining India. I've seen him captain Mumbai Indians. I have captained India for so many matches so I can see the traits in a captain."

"I'm not surprised that he's taken the side to greater heights in white ball. I don't know whether he's going to continue playing Test cricket but if he is hearing me, he should take the responsibility of turning things around in red-ball. India are not good at red-ball at the moment and they need to look at it, find a way to play well in England because that's going to be a very important five-Test series. Rohit has to find a way to get this team going," he added.

Explained: Who Are Yemen's Houthis And Why Is US Attacking Them?

US President Donald Trump has launched the biggest military operation in the Middle East since taking office against Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis after they resumed Red Sea shipping attacks.

The strikes, which have killed at least 24 people so far, could last for weeks according to one US official and come as Trump ramps up sanctions pressure on Tehran.

What Is The History Of The Houthis?

In the late 1990s, the Houthi family in the far north of Yemen set up a religious revival movement for the Zaydi sect of Shi'ite Islam, which had once ruled Yemen, but whose northern heartland had became impoverished and marginalized.

As friction with the government in the capital Sanaa grew, they fought a series of guerrilla wars with the national army and a brief border conflict with Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia.

Who Is The Houthi Leader?

Abdul Malik al-Houthi created the defiant force challenging world powers from a group of ragtag mountain fighters in sandals. Al-Houthi established a reputation as a fierce battlefield commander before emerging as head of the Houthi movement.

Under the direction of al-Houthi, who is in his 40s, the group has grown into an army of tens of thousands of fighters and acquired a huge arsenal of armed drones and ballistic missiles. Saudi Arabia and the West say the arms come from Iran, though Tehran denies this.

Al-Houthi is known for rarely staying long in one place, for never meeting the media and for extreme reluctance to make scheduled public appearances.

How Did The Houthis Come To Control Much Of Yemen?

A civil war erupted in Yemen in late 2014 when the Houthis seized Sanaa. Worried by the growing influence of Shi'ite Iran along its border, Saudi Arabia led a Western-backed coalition in March 2015, which intervened in support of the Saudi-backed government.

The Houthis established control over much of the north and other large population centres, while the internationally recognised government based itself in the port city of Aden.

Yemen enjoyed a period of relative calm amid a U.N.-led peace push, but a sharp escalation in regional tensions since the start of the Gaza war has increased risks of a new conflict between the militia and Riyadh.

Why Attack Ships?

The Houthis have waded into the Gaza conflict with attacks on shipping routes in the Red Sea as a show of support for the Palestinians and Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza.

They have also claimed attacks on ships they say are linked to Israel in the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Houthi attacks have disrupted global shipping, forcing firms to re-route to longer and more expensive journeys around southern Africa.

While the militia has said it attacked only vessels with links to Israel, the United States and Britain, shipping industry sources say all ships were at risk.

The US and Britain had retaliated with air strikes against the Houthis as part of international efforts to restore the free flow of trade along a key route between Europe and Asia that accounts for about 15% of the world's shipping traffic.

A period of relative calm started in January alongside the Gaza ceasefire but the group then warned in March it would resume its naval operations if Israel did not lift a blockage of aid into Gaza.

The Houthis then announced on March 12 a resumption of attacks with immediate effect.

What Are The Houthis' Links With Iran?

The Houthis are part of what has been called the "Axis of Resistance" - an anti-Israel and anti-Western alliance of regional militias including Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, backed by Iran.

The Houthis' slogan is "Death to America, Death to Israel, curse the Jews and victory to Islam".

The Saudi-led coalition accuses Tehran of arming and training the Houthis, a charge both deny. The coalition also says Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah is helping the Houthis, an accusation it rejects.

While Iran champions the Houthis, the Houthis deny being puppets of Iran, and Yemen experts say they are motivated primarily by a domestic agenda.

Centre Cracks Down On Amazon, Flipkart For Selling "Unsafe, Non-Certified" Items

To curb the distribution of non-compliant products through e-commerce platforms, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has carried out search and seizure operations at multiple warehouse locations of leading e-commerce platforms, including Amazon and Flipkart, in cities like Lucknow, Gurugram and Delhi, the government said in a statement today.

In a recent search conducted on March 7 at an Amazon warehouse in Lucknow, the BIS seized 215 toys and 24 hand blenders, all lacking mandatory BIS certification. In February, a similar operation at an Amazon warehouse in Gurugram led to the seizure of 58 aluminium foils, 34 metallic water bottles, 25 toys, 20 hand blenders, 7 PVC cables, 2 food mixers and 1 speaker - all found to be non-certified.

Similarly, in a search at a Flipkart warehouse in Gurugram operated by Instakart Services Pvt Ltd, the BIS seized 534 stainless steel bottles (vacuum insulated), 134 toys and 41 speakers that were not certified.

The BIS's investigations into multiple violations on both Amazon and Flipkart traced non-certified products back to Techvision International Pvt Ltd.

Acting on this lead, BIS conducted raids at two different facilities of Techvision International in Delhi, uncovering approximately 7,000 electric water heaters, 4,000 electric food mixers, 95 electric room heaters, and 40 gas stoves, without BIS certification.

Non-certified products seized include brands like Digismart, Activa, Inalsa, Cello Swift, and Butterfly, among others.

The BIS took legal action under the BIS Act, 2016 to hold the responsible entities accountable. BIS has already filed two cases against Techvision International Pvt Ltd. Additional cases are in the process of being filed for other seizure operations, the government said.

BIS is actively conducting market surveillance to ensure that consumer products available in the market, including on e-commerce platforms, comply with applicable safety and quality standards. As part of surveillance, BIS buys consumer products and subjects them to rigorous testing to verify compliance with the prescribed standards.

The products under market surveillance include commonly used consumer goods such as domestic pressure cookers, handheld blenders, food mixers, electric irons, room heaters, PVC cables, gas stoves, toys, two-wheeler helmets, switches, sockets, and aluminium foils for food packaging. Considering the potential hazards posed by substandard quality products, the central government has made BIS certification mandatory for these products.

During its surveillance, BIS identified that several non-certified products are being sold on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Myntra, and BigBasket, even though BIS certification has been made mandatory for these products.

Non-certified products include those that do not bear ISI mark or bear an ISI mark with an invalid licence numbers). These non-certified products pose significant safety risks to consumers as they have not undergone independent third-party testing to ensure they meet minimum safety and performance standards.

These large-scale seizures highlight the widespread issue of unsafe non-certified products being sold online, underscoring the urgent need for e-commerce platforms to exercise greater due diligence in ensuring that only BIS-certified products are listed for sale, wherever mandated by the central government, it said in the statement.

Assam Congress Leader Arrested Over Social Media Post. Himanta Sarma Reacts

The arrest of Congress' Assam unit spokesperson, Reetam Singh, over a social media post has teed off a fresh war of words between the grand old party and the ruling BJP.

Reetam Singh was on Saturday arrested for a social media post enquiring about the status of cases registered against three senior BJP leaders, including a former state chief and two serving MLAs.

The wife of BJP MLA Manab Deka filed a complaint against the Congress leader for a post on X two days ago. Reetam Singh had made a post on X on March 13 with a news report about three individuals being convicted by a court for a rape case in Dhemaji district in 2021.

He was arrested from his home in Guwahati by a team of Lakhimpur district police with assistance from the Guwahati Police.

"The arrest of my young colleague Reetam Singh for a perfectly reasonable social media post is worse than atrocious Mr. Chief Minister," Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh posted on X and tagged Himanta Sarma, the Chief Minister.

Responding to the post, Mr Sarma took a swipe at the Congress and doubled down on the action against Reetam Singh.

"Sir, this case pertains to a caste-based insult directed at a Dalit woman. If you justify calling the husband of a Dalit woman a rapist as a 'perfectly reasonable' social media post, it speaks volumes about the direction in which you people have taken the Congress party," Mr Sarma posted on X.

During the Congress leader's arrest he claimed that no warrant or notice was served on him.

Hours later, Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, reached Reetam Singh's house and alleged that his colleague was dragged by police on a day when Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in the state.

"A team of Lakhimpur police arrived in Guwahati to take custody of Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh. When I reached his residence, I saw how he was brutally dragged away and not allowed to speak to me. The police denied me the right to talk to him despite repeated requests," said Mr Gogoi.

"Just a few days ago, BJP workers brutally assaulted two Assam police constables in broad daylight, yet no action was taken. Why were those culprits not arrested? But when a Congress leader tweets something, the police act swiftly to arrest him as if he were a dreaded criminal," asked Mr Gogoi.

Mr Gogoi further claimed that the Assam police are being forced to act against political opponents, tarnishing their track record and putting them at risk of legal consequences.

"Bengaluru MLAs Blackmailing Us": DK Shivakumar On Garbage Crisis

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday alleged that the city MLAs across political parties are "blackmailing" the government over Bengaluru's garbage crisis.

Referring to them as "blackmailers" in the Legislative Council, he claimed that these MLAs are demanding Rs 800 crore in development funds.

He further alleged there is a "big mafia" controlling the city's solid waste management.

The Deputy CM was replying to MLC M Nagaraju's question on the garbage issue in the city.

Nagaraju pointed out that many garbage transporting vehicles are stranded on the roads due to lack of waste disposal facilities. He also expressed concerns about waste not being cleared from the city.

"I have seen reports about the garbage problem in the media. There is a big mafia. The garbage contractors have formed a cartel and quoted prices 85 per cent higher than the standard rates. Now, they have approached the court preventing us from taking action," DK Shivakumar, who is Bengaluru Development Minister, told the Council.

He further claimed that legal hurdles are delaying government efforts to streamline solid waste management.

DK Shivakumar revealed that the government had planned to divide the city's garbage disposal work into four packages and transport waste 50 km away, but the initiative has been stalled.

"Our Bengaluru MLAs are blackmailing us. I don't want to name them. I am telling you the fact. They are from all the parties. They want Rs 800 crore as development funds. I cannot take their names here." He told the Council that for the past three days vehicles were stranded in Mahadevapura in the city.

Noting that he wanted to take the garbage at least 50 km away from the city, the Deputy CM appealed to the MLAs to help the BBMP identify 100 acres land in Kolar, Nelamangala, Kanakapura Road, or next to a forest land.

"I (government) will purchase it (land) and get a permanent solution. I asked the Industries Minister for 100 acres land, to which he wondered whether garbage be dumped inside industries?" DK Shivakumar said.

The Deputy CM said the experiment to generate power has failed.

"I had been to Hyderabad and Chennai. All electric (units) have failed. The only option is gas. There is a chance to generate gas. I had seen it at three to four places," he opined.

Two locations have been identified for waste disposal - one is with the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) Road authorities and another one in Doddaballapura.

According to him, technologies exist to manage waste disposal efficiently without causing inconvenience to anyone or contaminating groundwater through leachate.

DK Shivakumar pointed out that all the governments have failed to find a humane solution to the garbage issue.

"What was done in the past was not done from the human perspective. Siddaramaiah and even the BJP had made promises but ultimately we have failed. We have to make a respectful arrangement for garbage disposal," he noted.

He told the House that he would give a detailed reply on the issue on Monday.
